From 1st October through to World Homeless Day on 10th October we are delighted to be partnering with the King's Cross Partnership and Havas People as well as the thriving community of organisations in the King’s Cross area for a 10 day takeover to raise awareness of and funds for youth homelessness.

Do your bit for World Homeless Day

There has never been a more important time than now to support young people experiencing homelessness and give their potential a home. You can also play your part.

Do: could you organise a virtual workshop to help young people develop their skills and build confidence or provide employment opportunities?

Discuss: host a virtual talk or event about youth homelessness at your workplace with New Horizon staff and young people.

You can also follow the takeover on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter and help raise awareness by using #NH10Days. We will be sharing stories from young people about what it is like to be young and homeless in these COVID times and all the action happening across the 10 days.

Donate: fundraise with your family, friends and colleagues or consider making a donation. Your incredibly generous support will enable us to continue supporting young people experiencing homelessness.

About New Horizon Youth Centre

Every year thousands of young people across London become homeless because of family breakdown, domestic violence, and poverty, experiences of violence, or war and persecution in their home country.

That’s why New Horizon exists. We are a vital support network for 16-24 year olds with nowhere else to go. Via our day centre, outreach and remote support we provide everything from hot food, showers and laundry to finding them accommodation, training and employment.

This year the pandemic has made the difficult situations for the young people we support at New Horizon even harder. Many young people have not only lost their work in this time of economic uncertainty or had their education impacted due to lack of access to digital resources, but they are also struggling more than ever to find accommodation. Only 10% of young people we support have a form of safe accommodation when first coming to New Horizon. In lockdown the number young people sleeping rough rocketed with 81% compared to the same period last year and we expect further increases in youth homelessness. With nowhere safe to call home, many more young people will be left vulnerable.

Given the challenges that these young people face, it’s no surprise that they tell us that surviving is a talent, but we believe that these talents should be used for so much more.

For as long as young people are homeless and vulnerable in London, we will be on a mission to give their potential a home.
